Popular Glasgow restaurant Eusebi Deli to take over old bank in West End

An award winning family business has lodged a planning application for the new venture.
An award winning Italian restaurant business has lodged plans to transform an empty bank into a new eatery and wine bar in the west end. Eusebi Deli has applied for planning permission to convert the premises on 11 Gibson Street - near to their current family restaurant on Park Road. The new Hillhead venue, which would boast "an impressive wine display" and "open cooking" would create jobs for 18 people according to documents submitted to the council. Planning permission granted three years ago has lapsed and the applicants say they now are in a position to push on with the redevelopment of the empty building near the University of Glasgow. A statement on the plans said: " The building has been neglected for some time resulting in the interior and shopfront to fall into disrepair. The site is now an eyesore which the applicants are desperate to get on and do as they are now over the hump of the financial difficulties of covid and post covid which has had a lasting impact well after the pandemic was brought under control. "The premises is a bit of a blot on the landscape within this west end street and the proposed refurbishment will ensure the streetscape is tidy and more appealing to its users." The bank has been empty for a decade and the property to be refurbished consists of three floors in a tenement. The supporting statement added: "The customers will be greeted by an impressive wine display at the back of the bar servery together with the theatre of open cooking. The ambience will be bohemian and welcoming to all to enjoy good wines and quality food. "Original artwork and bespoke finishes and fitments will be installed throughout." Explaining more about the family behind the plan, it added: "Edmund and Giovanna Eusebi opened what is their first deli restaurant on the corner of Park Road, which involved the extensive remodelling and refurbishment of another site that had lain almost derelict for nearly 15 years. It continued: "This premises has quickly become synonymous with quality food for sit in dining, and takeaway sandwiches, cakes and drinks together with a freshly made pasta offer. "Eusebi Deli now has a Glasgow wide reputation for its quality of food and Home made Italian cakes and pastries." Glasgow City Council is to consider the application.
