The team behind the Abergavenny restaurant have been able to assess the 'true extent of the damage' caused by the blazeA restaurant in Abergavenny has confirmed they will be "closed for the foreseeable future" following a devastating fire. On Friday evening, April 18, emergency services were called to Fork and Fire on Brecon Road near Nevill Hall Hospital in Monmouthshire town after reports of the blaze. Dramatic images circulated on social media showing thick smoke pouring from the building as locals watched with concern, while police and fire crews were called to the scene. Gwent Police issued a warning at around 8.30pm on Friday evening, urging residents in the area to keep doors and windows shut while crews worked to bring the fire under control. Following the major fire, the team at Fire and Fork issued an update on Monday, April 21. They described the days that followed the incident as "turbulent" and confirmed that they were able to assess the "true extent of the damage" caused by the fire. As a result, they confirmed that the restaurant would be closed. They added that they would take the next few days to assess if the business remained "viable" as they moved forward. Fire & Fork opened in 2023 and since then built a loyal local following. In a post shared on Facebook , the team wrote: "To all of our customers, after what has been a turbulent weekend, we wanted to keep our customers updated. "We have been able to enter the restaurant to assess the true extent of the damage caused by the fire on Friday. "Unfortunately this does mean that we will be closed for the foreseeable future until we are able to make a decision about the future of Fire & Fork at Y Cantref. "We will be taking the next few days to assess our options and if the business is viable moving forward. "As a team, since launching Fire & Fork in 2023, we have poured our hearts into this business and built a community of loyal customers who we have been lucky to serve. "While we take this time to reflect on the damage and to put together the next plan of attack, we will continue to update you via our social media pages. Keeping positive, Steve and the team".
